Yet Another Guest Strip
I know, I know. I've been a big slacker. Only, um, not so much; it just looks that way to everyone but me. Y'see, I'm really putting a lot of thought into the new approach to Popcorn Picnic, and figure you'd rather see something substantial than something I just crap out. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the way I'm rollin' the dice.
To that end, I agreed to do a guest strip for Mr. Gordon McAlpin, who does the mighty fine Multiplex. Though I, ah, might've forgotten to tell Gordon my secret plan to use the opportunity to experiment a bit (Oops! Silly me!) and as you can see by the panels above, things look a little different than usual. To read the remaining four panels, check the whole shebang out on the Multiplex site.
Anyway, this may not be the final look of the new Popcorn Picnic, but I'm liking it a lot. But as always, do feel free to tell me otherwise.

I'm very curious about those photo backgrounds. Did you go out and take them yourself? Because that's been something I've been thinking about doing for years.
I suck at drawing backgrounds. This would be a big deal for me.
Yep! Took 'em myself, quickie-snap digi-style. When I finished laying the strip out, I created another layer in Photoshop, rotated, stretched, scaled, adjusted contrast/brightness/color and VOILA! Instant backgrounds.
If you want to see another take on that approach, check out Overcompensating. If you haven't read OC, check it out even if you're not interested in the technique. It's awesome!
Hey man. I came over here from Multiplex yesterday and really enjoyed your guest strip, so I went through your entire archive. It's really good stuff, so I thought I'd leave you some props. Well done art and fun characters. The whole ET/Marlon Brando thing is great.
Anyways, keep it up.
Later,

"Oh, Baxter, you know I don't speak Spanish."
So, I'm loving the photo background idea. I imagine it would save you some time, which means more strips for us, less stress for you. A potential win-win, no doubt.
Google tells me the spanish comment above translates loosely to:
"You have been a year to write excrements nothing else. You have all the appearance of friki of extraordinary dimensions. You have a face for hacerte a picture, and a profile to hang keys. Cosmic Guacamayo, zarigüella, trasbordador pontoon, nabo, pasiegos sobaos, choto."
Uh, right. I have a feeling that's not quite accurate. Could someone translate more accurately for me, please?
Tom, Scott... thanks for the comments, and especially for stopping by! Willy... I'll have to respond later, once I understand. Sorry!
Hey Chris, I'm really into this new look, I think the strip looks great. Also, hate to break it to you, but you do have all the appearance of friki of extraordinary dimensions and a profile to hang keys.
Willy has a point. Cosmic opossum, baby...deep...very deep...
